The murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Breonna Taylor and countless other Black individuals across the world, are a result of systemic and institutional racism that all of us have a role to play to dismantle.
Advance recognises that many people are outraged and hurt, with many taking action, including providing community care and speaking out. This is a moment both for grief and for action, including for those of us who bear the greatest responsibility for perpetuating systems of white privilege.
We stand with people around the world in demanding justice and fundamental change and join the call for an end to violence that is systematically perpetrated against Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities.
We support calls for real solutions that keep communities safe, including investment in specialist BAME women’s services for those suffering violence and abuse, and those caught in the criminal justice system, which disproportionately impact BAME women and children adversely.
Advance continues to dedicate space, resources and power to centre the voices and experiences of BAME communities and to partner with specialist BAME organisations, in order to improve access to support for BAME women and children who face additional barriers and institutional racism.
We also continue to prioritise intersectionality, equality and diversity in our organisation, as we implement our annual plans co-designed with the staff, trustees and service users.
We are committed to standing with movements for racial and social justice and to fighting for our vision of a safe, violence-free and equal world for every one of us.
