A safe, just and equal world for women

Advance announces Winter Hardship Fundraising Campaign

November 14, 2022
Advance announces the Winter Hardship fund, in which we are raising funds needed for everyday items for women and children affected by domestic abuse.

As part of their London Whole Housing Partnership Service, Advance supports women who are affected by domestic abuse so that they can stay safe wherever they live – whether that is in their own homes or elsewhere in the community. This means that Advance works with statutory services and other community partners to secure new or better housing. When women and children flee domestic abuse and are re-housed, they find themselves without the essentials for everyday living. We support women who are without items needed to make a house a home such as beds, sofas, pots, pans, duvets, cutlery, crockery, kettles and much more.

As the cost-of-living crisis bites, Advance knows that help can’t come soon enough: 67% of survivors and children facing domestic abuse are already in a negative budget or have less than £100 surplus at the end of each month (1), leaving them without essential household items, clothing, food, or are being forced to stay in unsafe situations with perpetrators because they can’t afford to leave.

“Inflation has me living off less than £150 a month after bills. I don’t eat, so that my child has consistent food and basic necessities.”

“Finding homes for women fleeing domestic abuse is only part of the battle – women and children then need essential items to make their house a home.”

About Advance

Advance supports women and children affected by domestic abuse, helping them to be safe and take control of their lives. Advance also supports women in the criminal justice system or at risk of offending, to break the cycle of re-offending and to thrive, understanding that abuse and experience of the criminal justice system are often linked.

Advance provides holistic support for women involved in the criminal justice system who are often homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, to improve the response and access to support by statutory services and organisations.

As part of their London Whole Housing Partnership Service Advance supports women who experience domestic abuse so that they can stay safe wherever they live – whether that is in their own homes or elsewhere in the community.

Advance works in partnership with organisations and specialists in the community to secure the support women need.
