A safe, just and equal world for women

Legal advice clinic for survivors of domestic abuse

September 9, 2026
Advance, a law firm and a London university have partnered up in a scheme that provides free legal advice to help women experiencing domestic abuse.

The women are supported by Advance, and the Domestic Abuse Family Law Clinic is provided by lawyers from Davis Polk and trained Students from LSE Legal Advice Centre at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
The clinic supports across a wide range of issues that domestic abuse survivors need expert help with.
These include enforcement of court orders that are being breached; non-molestation orders; child contact arrangements and divorce.
Support from the clinic might also include general advice on court procedures, which can feel daunting and complex if not explained, and next steps for the women when their appointments with the clinic come to an end.
Women who have no recourse to public funds and are not eligible for legal aid or benefits are prioritised by the Legal Advice Clinic.

Krishna Tailor-Lodhi, Implementation Manager at Advance, said:

“The Domestic Abuse Legal Advice Clinic fills a crucial gap for women experiencing abuse who are often unable to access specialist legal support.

“Through this unique collaboration between legal professionals (Davis Polk Lawyers), London School of Economics law students and family law specialists, women receive expert advice that helps them understand their rights, navigate complex legal processes and make informed decisions about their safety and future.

“For many survivors, this support can be life-changing, providing clarity, confidence and access to justice at a time when they need it most.”

Diana Kirsch, Director LSE Legal Advice Centre, said:

“At a time when many people struggle to access family law advice due to cuts in legal aid, this clinic provides invaluable support to survivors of domestic abuse. The collaboration brings together the expertise of lawyers, students and specialist support workers to help some of the most vulnerable members of our community access the advice they need. We are proud to be working with Advance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the women they support.”
