The Intersection of Gender, Domestic Abuse, and Suicidality Webinar
The purpose of this webinar is to contribute to the growing conversation on the intersection of gender, trauma, and suicidality, with a specific focus on domestic abuse and the fact that domestic abuse-related suicide now outnumbers homicide in Domestic Homicide Reviews, soon to be known as Domestic Abuse Related Death Reviews.
Last year, Advance published The Intersection of Gender, Domestic Abuse and Suicidality, a report that highlighted the devastating reality that increasing numbers of women are dying by suicide as a result of domestic abuse.
Drawing on evidence and survivors’ experiences, the report explored the inseparable relationship between domestic abuse and suicidality. It also set out recommendations for improving support for survivors, strengthening prevention efforts, and ensuring perpetrators are held to account for the full impact of their abuse.
One year on, for World Suicide Prevention Day, we are reiterating the urgent need to recognise the links
between domestic abuse and suicidality. To mark the day, we are hosting a webinar exploring the findings of the report, reflecting on the progress made over the past year, and discussing what more must be done to better support survivors and prevent suicide.
